Port Joins in N.C. Seafood Festival

Free shuttle parking, ship tours and boat show highlight open house at Port of Morehead City

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C.Free parking and a free trolley shuttle to the North Carolina Seafood Festival are only the beginning of the weekend’s activities at the Port of Morehead City’s annual Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. Ship tours and Sunday’s annual Blessing of the Fleet also take place at the Port.

Held in conjunction with the Seafood Festival, the Port’s open house provides visitors a firsthand look at the Port and its facilities that link North Carolina consumers, business, and industry with world markets. The Port also offers the only free parking for visitors to the Seafood Festival, with complimentary shuttle service to the Morehead City waterfront.

Guided bus tours of the State Port’s docks, warehouses, cranes, equipment and cargo will be offered. The U.S. Navy’s 453-foot frigate USS Dewert and a U.S. Coast Guard Island-class patrol boat will be docked at the Port and open for tours as well.

The wildly popular Southern Outer Banks boat show returns to the Port, with more boats from more dealers on display.

The Port of Morehead City is located at 113 Arendell Street, U.S. 70 just before the bridge to Beaufort. Free parking is available for N.C. Seafood Festival activities all day Saturday and Sunday. Parkjing is open Saturday from 9 a.m.until 11 p.m.and Sunday 10:00 a.m.until 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 8, the Seafood Festival’s Blessing of the Fleet takes place at 10 a.m. at the Port. The ship tours and boat show are open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
