Governor Appoints Thomas Board Vice Chair
Governor Easley Appoints Brynn Thomas as Vice Chair of Ports Authority Board

State of North Carolina Office of the Governor Michael F. Easley Governor 
Raleigh - Gov. Mike Easley has appointed J. Brynn Thomas of New Bern vice-chair of the North Carolina State Ports Authority.
Thomas is vice president of Thomas Development Inc. and is a licensed real estate broker. He is a member of the N.C. State Fire and Rescue Commission, New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce and Craven County Jaycees and former member of the N.C. Ports Railway Commission.
Thomas received his bachelor’s degree in political science from East Carolina University.
The Ports Authority promotes, develops, constructs, equips, maintains and operates the harbors and seaports within the state, or within the jurisdiction of the state. It also maintains internal improvements including the acquisition or construction, maintenance and operation at such seaports or harbors of watercraft, and highways and bridges essential for the proper operation of the ports. There are 11 board members, each a serving six-year term. The governor appoints seven members.

North Carolina's Ports in Wilmington and Morehead City, plus inland terminals in Charlotte and the Piedmont Triad in Greensboro, link the State's consumers, businesses and industry to world markets, and serve as magnets to attract new business and industry. Port activities contribute statewide to 85,000 jobs and $299 million each year in state and local tax revenues. Top trading partners are China, Venezuela, Colombia, India, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and Turkey.
Primary exports include fertilizer, woodpulp, forest products, general merchandise, food, chemicals and metal products.
Top imports include forest products, chemicals, natural rubber, cement, scrap metal, steel, coal and general merchandise.
