NC State Ports Authority Named Top Green Supply Chain Partner
- One of only five U.S. ports to make the G50 -
June 28, 2010 - Inbound Logistics magazine named the NC State Ports Authority to its annual “G50” list of 50 Green Supply Chain Partners. The Authority is one of only five ports named in the list, featured in the magazine’s June 2010 issue.
Editors at the publication selected companies that are making sustainability a part of their extended enterprise, demonstrating qualitative progress, and can demonstrate measurable green results and sustainability innovation.
“The NC State Ports Authority is pleased to be recognized as one of Inbound Logistics ‘G50’. The Authority has been a leader in green initiatives at our ports in Wilmington and Morehead City, as well as our inland ports in Charlotte and Greensboro under our environmental initiative, ‘Project Energy’, “ said Tom Eagar, CEO, NC State Ports Authority.
Eagar initiated the Authority-wide “Project Energy” team in 2007 to focus on energy efficiency and cleaner, greener operations. The program’s multiple areas of concentration include electricity, utilities, fuel usage, emissions, alternative energies, recycling, hybrid technologies, and communications. The program has demonstrated multiple successes including the installation of four electric container cranes, the use of ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, reduction of electricity by approximately 80% in multiple warehouse facilities through the use of high-efficient light fixtures, and emissions reductions through equipment modifications and hybrid technologies.
“We value companies that are leading by example,” wrote magazine editor Joseph O’Reilly. The editorial mission of Inbound Logistics magazine is to provide today's business logistics managers with the information they need to speed cycle times, reduce inventories, and use logistics expertise to get closer to their markets and customers.
