Road Construction Scheduled near Port of Wilmington's south gate

Road closure will re-route traffic from August 20, 2010 through August 22, 2010.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close US 117 (Shipyard Blvd) and SR 1000 (River Road) where the two roads intersect at the entrance to the North Carolina State Ports Authority's south gate at the Port of Wilmington. The road will be under construction in order to perform railroad crossing upgrades.

The road closure will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010 until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2010.

The closure will affect trucks delivering and/or picking up containers at the Port of Wilmington's south gate only. Traffic through the north gate for trucks delivering and/or picking up general cargo will operate as normal.



Traffic to the Port of Wilmington's south gate will be routed as follows:

Container Traffic entering the Port of Wilmington from US 17, US 74/76, I-140:

US Hwy 421 south (Carolina Beach Road).
Turn right onto Independence Boulevard.
Turn right onto SR 1000 (River Road).
Turn left into Port of Wilmington's south gate.

Container Traffic exiting the Port of Wilmington to US 17, US 74/76, I-140:

Turn right out of Port of Wilmington's south gate onto SR 1000 (River Road).
Turn left onto Independence Boulevard.
Turn left onto US Hwy 421 north (Carolina Beach Road).

 



Container Traffic entering the Port of Wilmington from I-40 via Shipyard Boulevard:

Take I-40 East to US Hwy 321 south (South College Road).
Turn right onto Shipyard Boulevard.
Turn left onto US Hwy 421 south (Carolina Beach Road).
Turn right onto SR 1000 (River Road).
Turn left into Port of Wilmington's south gate.

Container Traffic exiting the Port of Wilmington to from I-40 via Shipyard Boulevard:

Turn right out of Port of Wilmington's south gate onto SR 1000 (River Road).
Turn left onto Independence Boulevard.
Turn left onto US Hwy 421 north (Carolina Beach Road).
Turn right onto Shipyard Boulevard.
Turn left onto US Hwy 321 south (South College Road) to I-40 West .

 

Traffic through the south gate will resume as normal at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010.
