Sallaum Lines Calls NC Ports

Wilmington becoming a routine stop for carrier

WILMINGTON, NC – The 550-foot IMOLA EXPRESS began loading at the Port of Wilmington today for its third call as part of the new regular roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) service between North Carolina and West Africa.

Wilmington serves as a loading port for Sallaum Lines ro-ro vessels used extensively in the movement of automobiles, construction equipment and project cargo. Ports of call in West Africa include Conakry, Guinea; Lome, Togo; Cotonou, Benin and Lagos, Nigeria.

“The Port of Wilmington is pleased to welcome Sallaum Lines to the Port of Wilmington,” said Tom Eagar, CEO, NC State Ports Authority. “Sallaum Lines is expected to call Wilmington every 40 days with the hopes of incorporating more calls as cargo flow warrants.”

“Sallaum is entering into a long and mutually beneficial relationship with NC’s Ports. We have been impressed with the facilities, customer service, and personnel we have encountered which were significant factors in our decision to add Wilmington to our schedule,” said Bill Ruff, Managing Director, Sallaum Lines DMCC.

“Trade between the Port of Wilmington and West Africa has been nurtured over several decades through service to a dedicated customer in the region,” said Omar Bah, Manager, L & T General Enterprises, primary shipper out of Wilmington with Sallaum Lines. “This new service responds to demand from the broader commercial market for access to the region.”

Sallaum Lines is an international shipping company and is an integrated part of Sallaum Enterprises. Since 1991, Sallaum Lines has been shipping vehicles to West Africa, the world’s largest market for used vehicles. Sallaum Lines operates a fleet of modern Pure Car Carrier (PCC) or Pure Car Truck Carrier (PCTC) vessels, with more than 4000 units’ capacity each, capable of handling a wide range of cargoes.

L & T General Enterprises is a Wilmington based non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC) founded by Glenn Lea that specializes in ocean transportation and logistics to West Africa.
